About Daikin
Daikin is a Japanese company based in Osaka and one of the largest HVAC manufacturers in the world. It's best known for ductless and inverter technology, and it was an early adopter of R-32 refrigerant. In the US, Daikin also owns Goodman and Amana.
Daikin equipment is showing up more in Santa Clarita, both as ductless systems in additions and as full central heat pump systems.
What Daikin offers
Daikin covers both ducted and ductless systems:
- Daikin Fit: a side-discharge outdoor unit with a slim, low profile. Good for tight side yards and spots where a tall square condenser won't fit.
- Ducted inverter systems: variable-speed air conditioners and heat pumps for homes with ductwork.
- Ductless mini-splits: single-zone and multi-zone systems, including wall-mounted, ceiling cassette and concealed duct indoor units.
- Gas furnaces and air handlers to pair with Daikin outdoor units.
Daikin also makes cold climate ductless heat pumps for places with real winters. The Daikin One+ smart thermostat ties into its ducted systems.
What's new with Daikin
The big change is refrigerant. Starting in 2025, new central AC and heat pump systems sold in the US moved off R-410A to lower-impact refrigerants, mostly R-454B or R-32. Daikin uses R-32 in its new systems, and it was one of the first big manufacturers to push R-32 worldwide. Your existing R-410A system is still legal to run and repair. The catch is that new and old refrigerants don't mix, so a new outdoor unit usually means a matching new indoor coil too.
Inverter technology is Daikin's home turf. Inverter compressors run at whatever speed the house needs instead of on/off. That means steadier temperatures, less noise, and less wear from constant starts. Daikin has also expanded cold climate heat pumps and app-based controls for both ducted and ductless systems.
How Daikin compares
Daikin is strongest in ductless and inverter equipment, where it's in the same league as Mitsubishi, Fujitsu and LG. On the ducted side, Daikin competes with mid-to-upper lines from Carrier, Trane and Lennox, often at a competitive price.
The Fit is a nice option for tight lots where a traditional condenser is a squeeze. Parts for common Daikin equipment are available through supply houses. Inverter boards and sensors are more specialized than parts on a basic single-stage unit, so diagnosis takes a tech who understands inverter systems and can read the fault codes.
Common problems we fix on Daikin systems
Daikin repairs we handle most:
- Mini-split blinking light or error code: sensor, board or communication fault between indoor and outdoor units.
- Blowing warm air: low refrigerant, a failed sensor, or an inverter board problem.
- Water dripping from the indoor head: clogged drain or a blocked condensate pump.
- Heat pump blowing cold air: defrost cycle issue, reversing valve, or low charge.
- System not turning on: power supply, fuse, or a communication error.
- Musty smell from the unit: mold on the coil or blower wheel of a ductless head.

Install or repair a Daikin system with WY&G
Most Daikin service calls start with the fault code. We read it, test the sensor or board it points to, and confirm before replacing anything. Ductless heads also need regular cleaning, and that alone fixes a lot of smell and drip complaints.
WY&G repairs all major brands, Daikin included, and installs new systems when repair stops making sense. We're a licensed HVAC contractor, CSLB C-20 #1044922, working across the Santa Clarita Valley. You get a written price before any work starts. No surprises on the invoice.
