Before you call

Quick checks you can do yourself

  1. Make sure the temperature dial was not bumped and is set around 37°F for the fridge and 0°F for the freezer.
  2. Check that the door closes fully and the gasket seals all the way around.
  3. Look for ice buildup on the back wall of the freezer: it points to a defrost problem.
  4. Clear anything blocking the vents inside, and leave space behind the fridge for air.
  5. If it is completely dead, check the outlet with a lamp and the breaker.

Still not working? Call (323) 240-2373 or tap "Call me back". Do not open electrical panels or touch gas parts.

Troubleshooting

Refrigerator Not Cooling but Freezer Works? Causes and Fixes

When the freezer stays cold but the fridge gets warm, cold air is not making it from the freezer into the fresh food section. The usual causes are a frosted evaporator coil from a defrost problem, a failed evaporator fan, or a blocked air vent or damper between the two sections.

Troubleshooting

Refrigerator Not Cooling at All? What to Check First

When both the fridge and freezer are warm, start with power, temperature settings, and a dirty condenser coil. If the refrigerator runs but nothing gets cold, the likely causes are a failed condenser fan, a start relay or compressor problem, or a control board fault, and those need a technician.

Troubleshooting

Refrigerator Leaking Water Inside or on the Floor? Fixes

Water inside the refrigerator is most often from a clogged defrost drain, while water on the floor usually comes from the water supply line, the water filter, or the drain pan. Shut off the water supply if you see a steady leak, then check the filter, the line behind the fridge, and the level of the unit.

Troubleshooting

Ice Maker Not Making Ice? 7 Common Causes and Fixes

An ice maker that stops making ice is usually turned off, not getting water, or sitting in a freezer that is not cold enough. Check that the ice maker is switched on, the freezer is near 0F, the water filter is not clogged, and the water supply valve is open, then call if it still does not fill.

Troubleshooting

Samsung Ice Maker Freezing Up? Ice Buildup Causes and Fixes

Ice buildup in a Samsung refrigerator ice maker usually comes from warm, humid air leaking into the ice compartment, a fill problem that overflows the tray, or a defrost or drain issue in the ice maker area. A manual defrost clears it for now, but if the ice comes back, the cause has to be found and repaired.

LG Refrigerator Not Cooling? Common Causes and Fixes

An LG refrigerator that stops cooling is most often caused by a dirty condenser coil, a failed fan, a defrost problem that frosts over the evaporator, or a compressor or sealed system issue. Check the settings, display mode, and coils first, and call a technician if the fridge stays warm.

Tip

Common problems and what they mean

Fridge warm, freezer cold

Often a defrost problem or a failed evaporator fan. The coil ices over and air cannot reach the fridge.

Water under the fridge

Clogged defrost drain or a leaking water line to the ice maker.

Clicking, no cooling

Start relay or compressor issue. Needs a technician.

Food freezing in the fridge

Damper, thermistor or control problem.

Pro tip

Vacuum the condenser coil under or behind the fridge once or twice a year. A dusty coil makes the compressor work much harder.
