Before you call

Quick checks you can do yourself

  1. Set the thermostat to Off for cooling and switch the fan to On. Let it run 2 to 4 hours, or until all ice is gone. Do not chip or scrape the ice.
  2. Put towels down near the indoor unit. Melting ice makes a lot of water fast.
  3. Replace the air filter while the system is thawing.
  4. Open all supply vents and make sure return grilles are not blocked.
  5. Once fully thawed, turn cooling back on and check it over the next few hours. If ice comes back, turn it off and call.
  6. If you smell burning, turn the system off at the thermostat and switch off its breaker. Do not turn it back on until it has been checked.

Still not working? Call (323) 240-2373 or tap "Call me back". Do not open electrical panels or touch gas parts.

Tip

When it makes sense to upgrade

Smoky days

A higher grade filter helps, if the blower can handle it.

Allergies

Seal leaky returns and upgrade the filter.

Filter clogs fast

Common in the valley. A thicker media filter lasts longer.

Dust after cleaning

Usually return leaks in the attic.

Pro tip

Do not jump to the highest MERV filter. If the system cannot push air through it, comfort drops and parts fail.

I don’t have enough good things to say about WY&G. They are professional, fast, and do quality work. I had a lengthy issue that required working with a home warranty and manufacturer’s warranty that WY&G was able to help me resolve. They are great with communicating and always called me back promptly. I will definitely be using them again.
