Before you call
Quick checks you can do yourself
- Set the thermostat to Heat, a few degrees above room temperature.
- Replace the furnace filter if it is dirty.
- Make sure the furnace door is closed tightly; a loose panel keeps it from starting.
- Check the furnace power switch (looks like a light switch) and its breaker.
- If you smell gas, do not touch anything: leave the house and call SoCalGas or 911.
Still not working? Call (323) 240-2373 or tap "Call me back". Do not open electrical panels or touch gas parts.

Furnace Blowing Cold Air? 7 Causes and What to Check
A furnace that blows cold air is often just set to fan On instead of Auto, or the burners shut off after a few seconds because of a dirty flame sensor, a clogged filter, or an ignition problem. Check the thermostat and filter first. If the burners do not light or keep shutting off, call a technician.

Furnace Turns On Then Shuts Off? Short Cycling Causes
A furnace that turns on and shuts off quickly is short cycling, usually because of a clogged filter causing overheating, a dirty flame sensor, a blocked vent or intake, or a thermostat problem. Replace the filter and check the thermostat first. If it keeps cycling, a technician should check the safety switches and venting.

Heat Pump Blowing Cold Air in Heat Mode? Causes
A heat pump that blows cool air in heat mode may simply be in defrost mode, which is normal and lasts a few minutes. If it blows cold air for a long time, check the thermostat mode and filter, then call a technician for possible reversing valve, defrost control, or refrigerant leak problems.
