- Clean the lint screen and check the outside dryer vent flap opens when the dryer runs.
- Make sure the dryer door closes fully and the cycle is not paused.
- Try a shorter load; overloading slows drying.
- Check the breaker; electric dryers use a double breaker.
- For gas dryers, make sure the gas valve is open. If you smell gas, leave and call SoCalGas.

A dryer that takes too long to dry is most often held back by a clogged lint filter or a restricted dryer vent. If airflow is good, the cause is usually a heating part that is weak or cycling wrong, a moisture sensor coated with residue, or loads that are too large or too wet.

Dryer Not Heating? Common Causes for Gas and Electric
A dryer that runs but does not heat is most often caused by a clogged vent or lint filter, a tripped breaker on one leg of an electric dryer, or a blown thermal fuse. Gas dryers also lose heat from a failed igniter or gas valve coils, and those parts should be tested by a technician.
