Before you call
Quick checks you can do yourself
- Set the thermostat to Heat, raise the setpoint a few degrees, and set the fan to Auto.
- If you see steam from the outdoor unit and the cool air stops within about 10 to 15 minutes, it was a defrost cycle.
- Replace the air filter if dirty.
- Check the breakers for both the outdoor unit and the indoor air handler, which often has a separate breaker for heat strips.
- Clear debris and snow or leaves from around the outdoor unit. Do not chip ice off the coil.
Still not working? Call (323) 240-2373 or tap "Call me back". Do not open electrical panels or touch gas parts.

Tip
When it makes sense to upgrade
Blows cool air in heat mode
Could be the reversing valve, defrost control or low refrigerant.
Outdoor unit iced over
Some frost is normal. A solid block of ice is not.
Runs constantly in winter
Sizing, airflow or a refrigerant problem. We test before guessing.
Replacing AC and furnace
A heat pump can replace both at once.
Pro tip
In Southern California a properly sized heat pump handles almost every winter night without a gas furnace.
