Setup and testing

Before you call

Quick checks you can do yourself

  1. Replace the air filter.
  2. Make sure all supply vents are open and return grilles are not blocked by furniture or rugs.
  3. Check the outdoor unit: clear debris and rinse the fins gently with a hose from the outside in, with the power off at the disconnect.
  4. Close blinds on sunny windows during the afternoon.
  5. Feel the air at a supply vent close to the indoor unit. If it is only slightly cool, that points to a system problem, not just heat load.
  6. If you can see any ducts in the garage or attic access without climbing into the attic, look for disconnected or crushed sections.

Tip

When it makes sense to upgrade

Upstairs 6 to 8 degrees warmer

The classic two-story problem. Zoning or a second system solves it.

Rooms you rarely use

Stop paying to cool them.

Home office runs hot

Give it its own zone.

Thermostat fights

Two zones, two thermostats, no argument.

Pro tip

Zoning only works on ducts that can handle it. We measure static pressure first.

I don’t have enough good things to say about WY&G. They are professional, fast, and do quality work. I had a lengthy issue that required working with a home warranty and manufacturer’s warranty that WY&G was able to help me resolve. They are great with communicating and always called me back promptly. I will definitely be using them again.
