Most Northridge ranch homes were built without central air and had it added later, so ducts often run through a hot attic or across the roof, and some homes use a rooftop package unit. Many houses are on their second or third AC system, and older ones may still run on R-22. A lot of homes were repaired or rebuilt after the 1994 earthquake, so equipment and ductwork can vary a lot from house to house on the same street. Not by itself, but roof ducts sit in direct sun all summer, so leaks, torn insulation and failing seams cost you a lot of cooling. We inspect them when the house is not keeping up.
