About Samsung
Samsung is a South Korean electronics giant, and its HVAC division builds ductless mini-splits, multi-zone systems and commercial VRF equipment. In North America, Samsung's residential ductless equipment has also been sold through a joint venture with Lennox.
Samsung units are common in Santa Clarita additions and single-room jobs.
If you bought a Samsung system because it matched your other Samsung gear, that's fine. Just know the HVAC side is its own world: refrigerant lines, flare fittings, drains and inverter boards. It needs an HVAC tech, not an electronics repair shop.
What Samsung offers
Samsung's home lineup is mostly ductless inverter heat pumps:
- WindFree wall units: designed to cool through many tiny holes in the panel instead of blasting air, so you don't feel a direct draft.
- Single-zone and multi-zone systems: one room or several rooms off one outdoor unit.
- Ceiling cassettes and slim ducted units for a cleaner look.
- DVM: VRF systems for larger buildings.
Many Samsung units connect to the SmartThings app for scheduling and remote control. Indoor unit styles vary, so a bedroom and a living room off the same outdoor unit can each get the head that fits.
What's new with Samsung
The big change is refrigerant. Starting in 2025, new central AC and heat pump systems sold in the US moved off R-410A to lower-impact refrigerants, mostly R-454B or R-32. Ductless systems are part of the same change. Ask us which refrigerant a specific Samsung model uses. Your existing R-410A system is still legal to run and repair. The catch is that new and old refrigerants don't mix, so a new outdoor unit usually means a matching new indoor coil too.
Samsung has been adding heat pumps aimed at colder climates and tying its HVAC into the SmartThings app, so you can control the system with the rest of your smart home. The WindFree mode is a real comfort feature for bedrooms, since the air feels gentler once the room reaches temperature.
How Samsung compares
Samsung is generally priced in the value-to-mid range for ductless, alongside LG and below Mitsubishi and Daikin. Its smart home features are a strength if you already use SmartThings.
On the service side, Samsung HVAC parts are model-specific and some need to be ordered. Error codes are the starting point for diagnosis. For a single room, Samsung is a reasonable pick. For a large multi-zone setup where long-term parts support matters most, the long-time ductless specialists may be worth comparing.
Common problems we fix on Samsung systems
Samsung HVAC problems we see most:
- Error code or blinking display: sensor, board or communication fault.
- Not cooling: refrigerant leak or failed sensor.
- Water leaking from the indoor unit: clogged drain or the unit tilted the wrong way.
- Musty smell: coil and blower wheel need a deep clean.
- Unit won't turn on: power, remote, or board issue.
- Cold air in heat mode: defrost or refrigerant problem.
