Heater & Furnace Repair in Aliso Viejo, CA
Aliso Viejo furnaces are often tucked into a hall closet or the attic over the garage, especially in townhomes. With mild winters they run lightly, which means dust on the flame sensor and burners rather than worn parts, at least until the furnace gets old. Many original furnaces from the 1990s are now there. We check the heat exchanger and test for carbon monoxide on every repair.
Furnace repair in Aliso Viejo
Aliso Viejo was built mostly in the late 1980s through the 2000s, and a lot of it is townhomes and condos. That shapes the heating work here: furnaces tucked into hall closets or attics over the garage, short duct runs, shared walls and HOA rules about anything outside. With the ocean a few miles away, the heat runs lightly most winters, so our furnace repair calls are often the first time the furnace has been opened in years.
Typical problems
- Furnace starts and stops because of a coated flame sensor or a weak igniter.
- Furnace will not run at all because a closet door or stored boxes block the return air, or the filter has not been changed since the last owner.
- Original furnaces from the 1990s with tired inducer motors, control boards and pressure switches.
- Heat pumps in some condos and in homes where the owner already switched. See heat pump repair.
Closet furnaces need air
A furnace in a closet pulls air for burning through louvered doors or vents. If someone replaced louvered doors with solid ones, or the closet is full of storage, the furnace can run poorly or vent badly. Keep the closet clear and the vents open. We check this on every visit because it affects both performance and carbon monoxide.
If the CO alarm goes off
A blocked closet vent, a disconnected flue or a cracked heat exchanger can all push exhaust into the living space, and in a townhome the furnace closet is often right off a hallway or bedroom. If your CO alarm goes off, leave the home, call 911, then call SoCalGas. Do not stop to open the furnace closet. Once it is safe, call us and we will find out why.
Replacing a furnace in a townhome
Replacing a furnace in a small closet or a garage attic takes planning: the new unit has to fit the space, match the AC coil and vent correctly. Some owners use the replacement as the moment to switch to a heat pump. Your HOA may want equipment details for any change to the outdoor unit, and replacements are permitted with the City of Aliso Viejo. We give you written prices for each option. More on furnace installation.

Frequently asked questions
My furnace starts, runs a few seconds and shuts off. Why?+
The most common cause is a dirty flame sensor. It is a quick repair and a sign the furnace is due for service.
Can I switch from a gas furnace to a heat pump?+
In many Aliso Viejo homes, yes. We look at the electrical panel and the space before recommending it.
Can I store things in my furnace closet?+
Keep it clear. A gas furnace needs air to burn safely, and anything stored against it is a fire risk. Paint, cleaners and paper should never be stored there.
My townhome furnace is in the garage attic. Can you reach it?+
Yes. Our technicians work in garage attics all the time. Clear a path under the hatch before we arrive if you can.
Do I need my HOA to approve a furnace repair?+
Usually not for a repair inside your home. Replacements that change outdoor equipment often need approval. Check with your HOA, and we will give you the details they ask for.
How fast can you come?+
Same day in most cases, 24/7 for emergencies.
Do you check for carbon monoxide?+
Yes, on every heater call.
