Heater & Furnace Repair in Laguna Niguel, CA
Laguna Niguel winters are mild, so furnaces run lightly and dust builds up on flame sensors and burners. Most homes have a gas furnace in the garage, a closet or the attic, and many are 20 years old or more. We check the heat exchanger and test for carbon monoxide on every repair.
Furnace repair in Laguna Niguel
Laguna Niguel furnaces have an easy life most of the year and a hard first night. The marine air keeps the heat off for months, dust settles on the burners and the flame sensor, and then the first cold week in November everyone turns the thermostat up at the same time. That is when weak igniters and dirty sensors show themselves. Here is what we see most often on our furnace repair calls in town.
- Lights, runs a few seconds, shuts off. A coated flame sensor. Cleaning it fixes the symptom, and a tune-up keeps it from coming back next fall.
- Clicks and never lights. A cracked hot surface igniter, a pressure switch that will not close, or a slow inducer motor.
- Heat in the living room, cold upstairs. Common in two-story hillside homes with one system. Often a duct or damper issue rather than the furnace itself.
- Older closet furnaces. Many homes from the 1970s and 80s still have the furnace in a hall closet or the garage, and some are on their second unit. We look hard at venting and the heat exchanger on these.
Hillside homes, HOAs and access
A lot of Laguna Niguel sits on slopes, so the furnace may be in an attic over the garage while the outdoor unit is down a narrow side yard or on a lower terrace. We plan for that. If a repair turns into a replacement and anything outside changes, many HOAs here want the equipment details before work starts. We give you those in writing so you can send them in.
Carbon monoxide: what to do
We test for carbon monoxide and check the flue on every heater repair. If your CO alarm sounds, get everyone out of the house, call 911, then call SoCalGas. Do not go back in to check the furnace. Call us once the house has been cleared.
When replacement is the better call
A cracked heat exchanger, a furnace past about 20 years with a failing major part, or a matching AC that is also at the end are the usual reasons. A replacement should be sized for the house, not copied from the old label, and it is permitted with the City of Laguna Niguel. We give you a written price for repair and for replacement so you can compare. More on furnace installation.
Check these first
- Thermostat set to Heat and a few degrees above room temperature. New batteries if the screen is dim.
- A clean filter. A clogged one can make the furnace overheat and shut itself off.
- The furnace door seated firmly. Most units will not start with the panel loose.
- The service switch next to the furnace is on and the breaker has not tripped.

Frequently asked questions
My furnace turns on and shuts off right away. Why?+
Usually a dirty flame sensor. It is a quick repair and a sign the furnace needs a tune-up.
I smell gas near the furnace. What should I do?+
Leave the house and call SoCalGas or 911 from outside. Do not touch switches or the thermostat. Call us after it is safe.
My furnace runs but the upstairs never gets warm. Is the furnace weak?+
Not always. In two-story homes with one system, a closed damper, a loose attic duct or a blocked return is often the cause. We check the airflow before blaming the furnace.
Can you fix heating and AC on the same visit?+
Yes. If both need attention, our technician checks the furnace and the AC on the same trip and gives you one written price.
Do you work on the furnace if it is in a garage attic with no ladder?+
Yes. We bring our own ladders and work lights. Just let us know where the access hatch is when you call.
How fast can you come?+
Same day in most cases, 24/7 for emergencies.
Do you check for carbon monoxide?+
Yes, on every heater call.
