Heater & Furnace Repair in Tustin, CA

Tustin winters are mild, so a furnace can sit unused for months and then fail on the first cold night. In older Tustin homes the furnace is usually in a hall closet or the garage, and some still have original wall heaters. Tustin Ranch homes typically have attic or garage furnaces that are reaching an age where igniters, inducer motors and pressure switches start to go. Every heater repair includes a carbon monoxide check.

Furnace repair in Tustin

Tustin is the northern edge of the South Orange County area we serve, and its housing spans more decades than most nearby cities. Old Town has homes with wall and floor furnaces, mid-century neighborhoods have closet and garage furnaces, Tustin Ranch has 1990s attic and garage systems, and Tustin Legacy is new construction. Our furnace repair work here depends a lot on which part of town you are in.

By neighborhood

  • Old Town and older neighborhoods. Wall heaters, floor furnaces and older forced air furnaces. Venting and the burner get a careful look. See wall and floor heaters.
  • Tustin Ranch. Furnaces from the 1990s or first replacements. Igniters, inducer motors, pressure switches and control boards.
  • Tustin Legacy and newer homes. Mostly newer high efficiency furnaces and heat pumps. Problems are often setup issues, condensate drains or thermostat programming. Equipment this new may still be under the manufacturer warranty, so keep your paperwork handy.

The first cold night

Tustin furnaces sit for months. The first time they run, you may smell dust for a few minutes; that is normal. What is not normal is a furnace that lights and shuts off, clicks without lighting, or blows cold air. Those are ignition or overheating problems, and they need a technician.

Carbon monoxide

Wall and floor furnaces in older Tustin homes vent through the roof, and a loose or rusted vent pipe can let exhaust back into the room. Forced air furnaces in garages need their flue and the garage wall sealed. Every gas heater repair includes a carbon monoxide test. If your CO alarm sounds, leave the house, call 911, then SoCalGas. Do not go back in until they clear it.

Replacement

We size a replacement for your house, match it to the AC or price a heat pump, and check the venting before quoting. In older homes we also look at the ducts, since replacing a furnace onto leaking ducts leaves the problem in place. Replacements are permitted with the City of Tustin. If you are in a Tustin Ranch HOA, we give you the equipment details they need. More on furnace installation.

Before you call

  1. Thermostat on Heat and set above room temperature.
  2. Filter clean.
  3. Breaker and service switch on, furnace panel closed.
  4. For a wall heater, check the pilot. Do not relight it if you smell gas.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you repair wall heaters in Old Town Tustin?+

Yes. We repair and replace them and check the venting and carbon monoxide every time.

I smell gas near my furnace. What should I do?+

Leave the house right away and call SoCalGas or 911 from outside. Do not switch lights or the thermostat on or off. Call us after the gas company says it is safe.

My Tustin Legacy home is new. Why is the heat not working?+

In new homes we often find thermostat setup issues, a tripped condensate switch or a loose connection from construction. If the equipment may be under warranty, we help you check with the manufacturer.

Can you replace a floor furnace in an Old Town home?+

Yes. Depending on the house, the options include a new floor furnace, a forced air furnace or a ductless heat pump. We look first, then recommend.

How long does a typical furnace repair take?+

Most repairs are done in one visit when the part is common. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you before we leave.

How fast can you come?+

Same day in most cases, 24/7 for emergencies.

Do you check for carbon monoxide?+

Yes, on every heater call.
