Heater & Furnace Repair in Castaic, CA
Many Castaic, Hasley Canyon and Val Verde properties run on propane instead of natural gas. Propane furnaces use different gas pressure settings and need a technician who checks them properly. We service both propane and natural gas heaters.
Furnace repair in Castaic, where nights get colder
Furnace repair in Castaic is a bigger deal than it sounds. Winter nights near the lake and up toward the Grapevine run colder than in Valencia, and the wind makes it feel colder still. When the heat goes out here, the house cools down fast. Lakeside tracts mostly have attic or closet gas furnaces, Williams Ranch and the newer neighborhoods often have high efficiency furnaces or heat pumps, and Hasley Canyon and Val Verde properties frequently run on propane.
What we see on Castaic heating calls
- Furnace locks out on windy nights. Strong gusts can disturb the draft on a natural draft flue or push on a high efficiency vent. We check the vent cap and termination and the pressure switch.
- Propane furnace lights poorly or not at all. Propane runs at different pressure than natural gas, and a furnace set up for the wrong gas will misbehave. We check pressure and the burner setup. Also confirm the tank is not low before you call.
- Heat pump struggles on cold mornings. Defrost cycles are normal. A heat pump that cannot keep up, or runs on backup heat all the time, needs a look. See heat pump repair.
- Ignition faults after the summer. Dust gets everywhere in Castaic. A dirty flame sensor is the first suspect.
- Older package units on lake area homes. Rooftop or side yard gas packs with worn burners and inducers.
Wall heater repair in Val Verde and older homes
Some older Castaic and Val Verde homes, guest houses and mobile homes still heat with gas or propane wall heaters. We repair pilots, thermocouples and gas valves and check venting every time. See wall and floor heaters.
Repair or replace?
Ignition parts, motors and boards are repairs. If the heat exchanger is cracked, or the furnace is old and the AC is also near the end, a new furnace or a heat pump is worth pricing. On a propane property, a heat pump can cut how often you fill the tank. You get both options in writing. More on furnace repair.
Carbon monoxide: what to do
If your CO alarm goes off, do not look for the cause. Get everyone out of the house, call 911, then call SoCalGas (on a propane property, call your propane supplier instead). Call us once the fire department or the gas company says it is safe to go back in. Every heater repair we do includes a carbon monoxide test and a look at the flue and gas connections.
Safe checks before you call
- Thermostat set to Heat, a few degrees above room temperature, with fresh batteries if it has them.
- Look at the filter. If it is gray and packed, replace it.
- Check the breaker and the service switch next to the furnace (it looks like a light switch).
- Make sure the furnace door or panel is closed tight. Most furnaces will not run with it loose.
- On propane, check the tank gauge. A low tank is the simplest cause of no heat.

Frequently asked questions
Do you repair propane furnaces in Castaic?+
Yes. Propane is common in Castaic and Val Verde, and we service those furnaces.
Do you serve Val Verde?+
Yes, Val Verde is covered together with Castaic.
Can wind really shut off my furnace?+
It can. Strong gusts can upset the draft in a flue or the pressure in a high efficiency vent, and the safety switch shuts the furnace down. If it happens often, the vent cap or termination may need to change.
My propane furnace smells different than gas heat did. Is that a problem?+
Propane and natural gas both have an added odor so leaks can be smelled. If you smell gas, leave the house and call your propane supplier and 911 from outside.
Is a heat pump enough for a Castaic winter?+
For most Castaic homes, a correctly sized heat pump keeps up. On the coldest nights it may use backup heat. We size it for the house and the location.
How fast can you come?+
Same day in most cases, 24/7 for emergencies.
Do you check for carbon monoxide?+
Yes, on every heater call.
