Heater & Furnace Repair in Valencia, CA
Many Valencia furnaces from the late 1990s and early 2000s are still running, often in the attic or a garage closet. At that age we look closely at the heat exchanger, the inducer motor and the pressure switch, the parts most likely to fail or become unsafe on an older furnace.
Furnace repair in Valencia: what we find in the attic
If you need furnace repair in Valencia, odds are your furnace lives in the attic or a garage closet and was installed when the house was built. Bridgeport, Westridge, Tesoro del Valle and the paseo neighborhoods went up in waves from the 1970s to the 2000s, so a single street can have an original standard furnace next door to a newer two stage unit. We come prepared for both.
The heating problems Valencia homes call us about
- Furnace clicks, lights, then shuts off. Usually a dirty flame sensor. A summer of attic dust coats it, and the board stops trusting the flame.
- Inducer motor noise or no start at all. The small fan that clears the flue before ignition wears out on furnaces of this age. A whine or rattle before ignition is the early sign.
- Pressure switch faults. On high efficiency furnaces a plugged condensate trap or a cracked hose keeps the switch open, and the furnace never lights.
- Upstairs cold, downstairs fine. Many Valencia two story homes run one furnace for both floors. Long attic duct runs lose heat on cold nights, and a disconnected duct is a common find.
- Heat pump blowing cool air. Newer Valencia builds and recent replacements often use a heat pump. Defrost mode can feel cool for a few minutes, which is normal, but a long cool run is not. See heat pump blowing cold air.
What our technician checks
We start with the error code on the control board, then work through the ignition sequence step by step: inducer, pressure switch, igniter, gas valve, flame proof. Before we leave we check the heat exchanger for cracks, test for carbon monoxide, and confirm the flue is sealed where it passes through the attic. Details on our furnace repair page.
Repair or replace?
An igniter, sensor, inducer or control board is a repair, and we say so. Replacement starts to make sense when the heat exchanger is cracked, the furnace is around 20 years old and needs a major part, or the AC is failing at the same time and you would rather install a matched system once. When it is close, you get a written price for both options. Our furnace installation page explains what a replacement includes.
Carbon monoxide: what to do
If your CO alarm goes off, do not look for the cause. Get everyone out of the house, call 911, then call SoCalGas. Call us once the fire department or the gas company says it is safe to go back in. Every heater repair we do includes a carbon monoxide test and a look at the flue and gas connections.
Safe checks before you call
- Thermostat set to Heat, a few degrees above room temperature, with fresh batteries if it has them.
- Look at the filter. If it is gray and packed, replace it.
- Check the breaker and the service switch next to the furnace (it looks like a light switch).
- Make sure the furnace door or panel is closed tight. Most furnaces will not run with it loose.
- If the furnace has a small window on the door, note the blinking light pattern. It tells us which part to bring.

Frequently asked questions
Is a 25 year old furnace in Valencia safe?+
It can be, but it needs an inspection of the heat exchanger and a carbon monoxide test. We tell you plainly what we find.
My furnace blower runs but no heat comes out. What is it?+
Usually an ignition problem: igniter, flame sensor, pressure switch or a gas valve issue. It needs a technician to test safely.
Why does my Valencia furnace smell like dust the first time I turn it on?+
Dust settles on the burners and heat exchanger over the summer and burns off in the first few minutes. That is normal. A smell that lasts, or smells like gas or hot wiring, is not. Turn it off and call.
Can one furnace heat both floors of my Valencia home evenly?+
It can if the ducts are sealed and the returns are big enough. When the upstairs stays cold, we check for disconnected or crushed attic ducts first, then talk about zoning if needed.
Do you service furnaces in Valencia HOA communities?+
Yes. Repairs inside the home or attic do not usually need HOA approval. For a replacement we follow the HOA rules on equipment placement.
How fast can you come?+
Same day in most cases, 24/7 for emergencies.
Do you check for carbon monoxide?+
Yes, on every heater call.
