Heater & Furnace Repair in Canyon Country, CA
Canyon Country homes have everything from wall furnaces and rooftop gas packs to newer attic furnaces in Fair Oaks Ranch. Gas packs on the roof take sun and wind year round, so we see corroded burners and failed igniters on them more than on indoor furnaces.
Furnace repair in Canyon Country: gas packs, closets and wall heaters
Furnace repair in Canyon Country covers a wide mix of equipment. The 1960s to 80s single story homes have closet furnaces, rooftop gas packs and gas wall heaters. Fair Oaks Ranch and the newer hillside tracts mostly have attic furnaces. Sand Canyon properties may have more than one system for a main house and a guest house. Canyon Country also has several mobile home parks along Soledad Canyon Road and Sierra Highway.
Common heating failures we fix here
- Rooftop gas pack will not light. Sun and wind beat on these units all year. We find rusted burners, spider webs in the burner tubes, cracked igniters and failed inducer motors. See package units.
- Closet furnace runs a few minutes, then shuts off. A dirty flame sensor or an overheating furnace from a clogged filter and undersized return.
- Blower runs, air is cold. The burners have locked out after several failed tries. See furnace blowing cold air.
- Thermostat issues after a power outage. Wind events here can knock out power, and older thermostats sometimes lose settings or stop calling for heat.
Gas wall heater repair in Canyon Country
Older Canyon Country homes and mobile homes often use a gas wall heater as the main heat source. We repair pilots, thermocouples, gas valves and wall thermostats, and on every visit we check the vent and test for carbon monoxide. If a wall heater is not safe to run, we shut it off and explain your options, including a new direct vent wall furnace. More on wall and floor heaters.
Mobile home furnace repair
Manufactured homes use furnaces made for them, with sealed combustion and specific venting. We service them and only install parts and units approved for manufactured homes.
Repair or replace?
A rooftop gas pack with a rusted out heat exchanger or a cabinet coming apart is usually a replacement. A worn igniter or a failed inducer is a repair. For closet furnaces, age plus a major part plus an AC near the end of its life is the point to price a new system. You get both options in writing. See furnace repair for how we work.
Carbon monoxide: what to do
If your CO alarm goes off, do not look for the cause. Get everyone out of the house, call 911, then call SoCalGas. Call us once the fire department or the gas company says it is safe to go back in. Every heater repair we do includes a carbon monoxide test and a look at the flue and gas connections.
Safe checks before you call
- Thermostat set to Heat, a few degrees above room temperature, with fresh batteries if it has them.
- Look at the filter. If it is gray and packed, replace it.
- Check the breaker and the service switch next to the furnace (it looks like a light switch).
- Make sure the furnace door or panel is closed tight. Most furnaces will not run with it loose.
- If you have a rooftop gas pack, do not climb up to look. Just tell us when it last ran and if you hear the fan.
