Heater & Furnace Repair in Saugus, CA
Newer Saugus homes mostly have attic furnaces with high efficiency or two stage burners, while the 1980s homes along Bouquet Canyon often have older standard furnaces in a hall closet or garage. The common failures are different, so we come prepared for both.
Furnace repair in Saugus: two kinds of homes, two kinds of problems
Furnace repair in Saugus depends a lot on which side of the neighborhood you live on. Plum Canyon, Skyline and Copper Hill are newer tracts with attic furnaces, often high efficiency with plastic vent pipes, and some with heat pumps. The 1980s and 90s homes along Seco Canyon and Bouquet Canyon usually have an older standard furnace in a hall closet or garage. There are also mobile home communities in Saugus with their own furnace types.
Newer Saugus homes: high efficiency furnaces
- Condensate problems. High efficiency furnaces make water. A clogged trap, a kinked drain or a failed condensate pump will shut the furnace off, sometimes with water in the pan.
- Pressure switch and vent faults. Wind can push on the plastic vent terminations, and a nest or debris in the pipe keeps the furnace from lighting.
- Control board and communicating thermostat errors. Newer systems talk to the thermostat. A loose wire can look like a dead furnace.
Older Saugus homes: standard closet and garage furnaces
- Worn hot surface igniters and dirty flame sensors. The most common no heat call in fall.
- Blower motor and capacitor failures. The burners light, then the furnace overheats because the blower cannot move air. See furnace short cycling.
- Flue and draft hood issues. On older natural draft furnaces we check that combustion gases go up the flue and not back into the closet.
Mobile home furnaces in Saugus
Manufactured homes use furnaces built for them, usually downflow units with sealed combustion. Replacement parts and replacement furnaces must be approved for manufactured homes. We work on them and bring the right parts.
Repair or replace?
On a builder grade furnace that is still young, a repair is almost always the answer. On a Bouquet Canyon furnace that is 25 or 30 years old, a cracked heat exchanger or a failed gas valve plus a tired AC is a good moment to price a replacement or a heat pump. We give you both prices in writing. More on furnace repair.
Carbon monoxide: what to do
If your CO alarm goes off, do not look for the cause. Get everyone out of the house, call 911, then call SoCalGas. Call us once the fire department or the gas company says it is safe to go back in. Every heater repair we do includes a carbon monoxide test and a look at the flue and gas connections.
Safe checks before you call
- Thermostat set to Heat, a few degrees above room temperature, with fresh batteries if it has them.
- Look at the filter. If it is gray and packed, replace it.
- Check the breaker and the service switch next to the furnace (it looks like a light switch).
- Make sure the furnace door or panel is closed tight. Most furnaces will not run with it loose.
- On a high efficiency furnace, look at the condensate drain and pan. Standing water is a clue worth mentioning when you call.

Frequently asked questions
My high efficiency furnace shows an error light. What does it mean?+
Most furnaces flash a code on the control board. Note the pattern through the little window and tell us when you call; it helps us bring the right part.
Do you service Skyline and Plum Canyon?+
Yes, both are inside our core zone around Santa Clarita.
Why does my Saugus furnace drip water?+
High efficiency furnaces produce condensate, so a little water in the drain is normal. Water in the pan or on the floor means a clogged trap, drain or pump. We clear it and check the safety switch.
Do you repair mobile home furnaces in Saugus?+
Yes. We service manufactured home furnaces and use parts approved for them.
My furnace is still under warranty. Can you work on it?+
Often yes. Many parts warranties cover the part, not the labor, and need the model and serial number. Tell us when you call and we will check what applies.
How fast can you come?+
Same day in most cases, 24/7 for emergencies.
Do you check for carbon monoxide?+
Yes, on every heater call.
