Heater & Furnace Repair in San Juan Capistrano, CA
Older San Juan Capistrano homes have closet and garage furnaces, wall heaters and in some cases floor furnaces. Older gas heaters need careful attention to venting and the heat exchanger. We repair all of them and test for carbon monoxide on every visit.
Furnace repair in San Juan Capistrano
San Juan Capistrano has more variety in heating equipment than most South County towns. Ranch homes from the 1960s and 70s, historic houses near the Mission, newer hillside homes and manufactured home communities all heat differently. The valley also holds cool air at night, so heat gets more use here than in the beach towns. Our furnace repair visits here cover all of it.
What we work on
- Closet and garage furnaces in the older tracts, often on their second or third replacement. Common repairs are igniters, flame sensors, inducer motors and limit switches.
- Wall and floor heaters in older homes. These have no filter and few safety controls, so venting and the burner need a careful look. See wall and floor heaters.
- Manufactured home furnaces, which use their own type of equipment and venting.
- Attic furnaces in the newer hillside homes, where a clogged condensate line on a high efficiency furnace can shut the heat off.
Old furnace, idle summer, first cold night
A furnace that has been off since spring can start up fine and then quit an hour later. Dust burns off the burners, a marginal igniter finally cracks, or the flame sensor reads too weak and the control board locks it out. If yours tries several times and stops, that is a lockout. Leave it off after one reset and call us.
Carbon monoxide comes first
Older gas heaters deserve extra caution. We test for carbon monoxide and check the flue on every repair. If your CO alarm goes off, leave the house, call 911, then call SoCalGas. Go back in only after you are told it is safe.
Replacing a furnace or wall heater
When a furnace is past repair, we look at the whole setup before quoting: the size of the house, the ducts, where the flue runs and whether you want to add cooling. Some owners replace a worn wall heater with a ductless heat pump, which heats and cools without new ductwork. Replacements are permitted with the City of San Juan Capistrano, and you get a written price before any work starts. See furnace installation.
Safe checks before you call
- Thermostat on Heat, set above room temperature, fresh batteries.
- Filter replaced if dirty.
- Gas valve to the furnace in the open position (handle in line with the pipe). If you are not sure, leave it and call.
- Breaker and service switch on.

Frequently asked questions
Do you repair wall heaters?+
Yes, and we check venting and carbon monoxide every time.
Is it worth fixing a 25 year old furnace?+
A small repair can be. If the heat exchanger is cracked or major parts are failing, replacement is the safer choice. We show you what we find.
How old is too old for a furnace?+
There is no fixed number, but past about 20 years we look harder at the heat exchanger and the cost of parts. A safe furnace with a small failed part is still worth fixing.
Do you repair heaters in guest houses and casitas?+
Yes, including small furnaces, wall heaters and ductless heat pumps in detached buildings.
Will you tell me if my old heater is unsafe?+
Yes. If we find a cracked heat exchanger, a venting problem or carbon monoxide, we explain it plainly and, when needed, shut the unit off.
How fast can you come?+
Same day in most cases, 24/7 for emergencies.
Do you check for carbon monoxide?+
Yes, on every heater call.
